Berklee ran the most visible AI-music curriculum in higher education in 2025 — courses spanning AI for songwriters, composition, and machine learning, alongside its Emerging Artistic Technology Lab (BEATL) — and did so publicly enough to draw both new students and vigorous debate, including a student petition. Its willingness to teach the tools, and to host the resulting controversy, made it the year's central venue for AI-music education.
